R9m boost for local Community Law Centre

Approximately R9 million was recently handed over to the Community Law Centre in Seshego to help the poor access free legal services

POLOKWANE – The centre offers free legal services at no cost to those who cannot afford legal advice and litigation.

The money was donated by the Foundation of Human Rights and the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development.

Community Law Centre CEO and human rights advocate, Pat Molepo, says: “our country is governed by the Constitution which consists of rights, so our aim is to help people know and understand their rights while we protect those who may suffer a violation at the hands of other residents”.

Molepo says the funding came at the perfect time as they are currently conducting outreach programmes and workshops to raise awareness about legal matters and how the community can get help.

“Now we will be able to reach those in rural areas to provide them with relevant information,” he says.

He further says it is a sad reality that a lot of people still don’t know their rights or that there are laws that protect them if their human rights have been violated.

He says people must know that the centre is open to assist anyone who cannot afford to pay for legal fees.

The Community Law Centre is situated at 1480 Zone 8 Seshego, while the other branch is in the Pioneer Building office number 303 and 304 in Landdros Maré Street, Polokwane,

Operating hours: 08:00 until 16:00 Monday to Friday. They can be reached at (015) 291 5128 for any enquiries.
