Four up for brutal attack, murder in Monsterlus

Police said the suspects then tied the victim behind a bakkie and dragged him to a nearby stream where they continued to assault him

LIMPOPO – Four suspects initially arrested in connection with the assault of a man in Vleisboom outside Monsterlus were remanded in police custody when they appeared before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court last Tuesday.

According to police, the four suspects attacked the 29-year-old victim at his home in Vleisboom last Saturday afternoon and assaulted him with an assortment of weapons including sjamboks and sticks.

Police said the suspects then tied the victim behind a bakkie and dragged him to a nearby stream where they continued to assault him.

The victim was found crawling, with severe injuries, near the stream by the community, who informed police.

WO Aviva Magolego, Hlogotlou police spokesperson, said four suspects aged between 31 and 36 were initially arrested in connection with a case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

“The victim was taken to St Ritas Hospital for medical treatment. The motive behind the assault is not known. The victim died after he was discharged from hospital,” explained Magolego.

Magolego said a case of murder was opened following the death of the victim, who cannot be named before the next-of-kin are informed.

Further investigations are underway. The suspects are expected to appear in court soon for formal bail application.
