UPDATE: Rape-accused doctor out on bail

The 39-year-old doctor accused of raping a 17-year old girl was released on R1 000 bail by the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s court in Lebowakgomo today (Wednesday).

LIMPOPO – The 39-year-old doctor accused of raping a 17-year old girl was released on R1 000 bail by the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s court in Lebowakgomo today (Wednesday).

The  doctor, from the Lebowakgomo Hospital was denied bail after his first court appearance on 24 May.

The suspect is expected back in court on July 29.

According to the Spokesperson for the Lebowakgomo SAPS, W/O Manong Tsehla  the incident occurred on the hospital premises.

“The girl went to the hospital late on Monday evening for a consultation, she was examined by the doctor and told to come back the following day. “As it was late, the girl decided to sleep on a bench at the hospital instead of going home”. The rape allegedly occurred after the doctor offered the victim an isolated room on the hospital premises to sleep.

She opened a rape case the next day.
