Vele is set to invigorate culture of learning

Vele Sihadi (24) is a teacher, and says her passion for teaching started in high school

POLOKWANE – “I used to tutor my classmates who had trouble understanding maths and life sciences. I believed in sharing my knowledge and helping those who could not remember what they learned in class so that we could all be on the same page,” Sihadi explains.

The Gr 10 English teacher says she started working in 2014 and loves her job.

“The future of these young people depends on me teaching them what they need to know.

Teaching is more than just a job for me, its my life.

Sihadi says most of her students see her as a role model because she completed her studies and became a teacher at a young age.

She currently teaches at Litshovhu Secondary School in Madombidzha outside Makhado in the Vhembe District.

“I always strive to give my learners more than just a classroom experience. There has to be a motive for them to come to school, I want to invigorate the culture of learning,” Sihadi says.

She has formed both a debate team and a netball team to accommodate those who are talented in the arts and sport.

The BA Communications graduate from the University of Limpopo says she enrolled for a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) to become a teacher.

She advises other teachers to have a positive influence on their learners. It is her belief that education is an instrumental tool to curb poverty and other challenges.

Sihadi says she is currently enrolled for a BA Honours Degree in Integrated Communications at UNISA and would love to venture into telecommunications and business in the near future.
