Two of the three men accused of kidnapping Anisah Moosa in March, Samuel Kubo and Elias Gafane, were rearrested by the Hawks on charges of armed robbery and attempted murder shortly after they were granted bail of R10 000 each in the Moosa case by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court last Thursday.
Hawks Spokesperson Matimba Maluleke said the duo were allegedly involved in an armed robbery at Apel Spar in December last year in which R200 000 and a firearm belonging to a security guard were reportedly stolen.
“It is also alleged that they shot at the Police van which responded to the incident. No one was injured,” Maluleke said, adding that they appeared before the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court on Friday and were remanded in custody until yesterday (Wednesday) for bail application.
Kubo, Gafane and a third suspect Benny Mudau will appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court again on 24 June in connection with the Moosa case.
Moosa was kidnapped outside her uncle’s house in Nirvana and the abductors demanded ransom and met with family and the Police three days later at Ga-Chuene.
A shootout ensued during which three Police officers were shot and injured.
The suspects might also be linked to a second kidnapping incident in which two other family members were allegedly kidnapped in Letsitele the same week.
