Latest trends on the runway in support of a good cause

Heeding the call to assist the Polokwane Nasorgsentrum, Ocean Basket Mall of the North and Foschini recently hosted a fundraising fashion show.

POLOKWANE – The event took place at Mall of the North on 24 May and involved a runway show with a twist. People were given an opportunity to not only have a hearty meal, but to see the latest trends up close.

Gerhard Franken, Marketing Manager of Ocean Basket (Mall of the North) and the organiser of the initiative says: “The centre is short of R12 000 each month and some of the residents only receive disability grants and that is not enough to cover all their costs. We thought we could help by raising money to help with the day to day running of the centre.”

Each guest had to pay R300 which included a full meal and refreshments as well as a front row seat to the fashion show. The models were all Polokwane residents and included Ocean Basket staff and learners from Oosskool and Akademia Reformia.

Franken went on to say that they couldn’t have hosted the event without the support of the community.

“We are thankful for the support we got from our sponsors, Foschini, Fizzy Soap Suds and Cazabella. And we would also like to thank the community for buying tickets and pledging their support,” says Franken. Alida Combrink one of the guests, shared her thoughts on the fashion show with Review. “I wanted to show my support because this is a worthy cause. I like that it was an event for everyone and I enjoyed it,” says Combrink.
