Acting Premier, Jerry Ndou, Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba, Social Development MEC Joyce Mashamba as well as senior management of the Department of Health and other dignitaries welcomed the Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marcelino Medina Gonzalez and the Cuban Ambassador to South Africa Carlos Fernandez de Cossio Domínguez to the celebrations.
The province collaborated with Cuba in areas such as health, human settlement and public works and there are 62 Cuban doctors as well as four engineers deployed in the province. Limpopo students are also trained as doctors in Cuba.
The Cuban visits served as an opportunity to review and reflect on future collaboration between the two countries, as the medical school that was established at the University of Limpopo will also get support from Cuba.
