Town mourns loss of a well-known businessman

The community is saddened with the passing of Haroon Baksa (65), better known as Aron, from Arons Sport, a man of substance who cared more for others than he did for himself.

MOKOPANE  – Haroon passed away last Monday (9 May) in the Millpark Hospital in Johannesburg. His son, Bilal Baksa, said: “My father was admitted to Millpark Hospital due to a lung infection and after an operation his condition worsened and he passed away late last Monday night.”

Bilal further said: “By the force of my father’s amazing personality, his enormous generosity and his heart of gold he will be missed. He was not only a great father, but a mentor.”

Haroon was known for his passion for sport and at the young age of 15 he already started working for Rand Cycle. In 1993 he opened the doors of Arons Sport in Mokopane which has become a renowned household name in Limpopo.

All of his clients agree that the town is an emptier place after his passing, but they will always treasure the memory of his friendly smile and willingness to go the extra mile. One of his friends said: “Haroon’s life centered around his family yet he always made time for friends, the destitute and the community at large.”

Principal of Hoërskool Piet Potgieter (HPP), Casper Badenhorst, said: “Haroon left big footsteps in the community, he had a great relationship with the school and he will be truly missed.”

Haroon was laid to rest last Tuesday at the Akasia Cemetery in Mokopane. Bilal has been working alongside his father at Arons Sport since 2007 and has now taken over the reins.
