12-year-old learner electrocuted at bus stop

A 12-year-old Pietersburg Comprehensive School learner was electrocuted

POLOKWANE – A 12-year-old learner from Pietersburg Comprehensive School (PCS) died in hospital late yesterday afternoon after she was electrocuted at a bus stop next to the school in Grobler Street.

Maliswa Luxande was waiting for her transport when the accident happened.

She was sitting in the bus stop structure and accidentally touched one of the electric cables that are in the shelter.

After Maliswa was electrocuted, she collapsed and the learners who were with her at the bus stop ran to call a teacher. She was rushed to the nearest hospital, where she died.

Polokwane police spokesperson, Capt Ntobeng Phala, confirmed that the police had opened and inquest.

Municipal spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo, said the municipality has launched a full investigation into what transpired.
