N1 South accident claims life of woman (38)
One person was killed in a head-on collision between a bakkie and a truck on Thursday evening.
POLOKWANE – A 38-year-old was killed in a head-on collision between a bakkie and a truck last night.
The accident happened on the N1 South close to the Caltex Garage (near Protea Hotel The Ranch Resort) between Polokwane and Mokopane.
Kagiso Mootane, Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Safety, Security and Liaison said: “The driver of the bakkie was driving in the oncoming traffic lane, when she collided with the truck. It is alleged that she might have been confused by the road signs due to the current road construction.”
The investigating officer, Const Johannes Mamabulo, said: “The driver was certified dead on the scene by paramedics, the driver of the truck was taken to the Seshego Hospital where he is being treated for minor injuries.”
“A investigation is on-going,” Mamabulo concluded.
Motorists are warned to be extra alert when driving on the N1 between Mokopane and Polokwane due to the current road construction.
