Bikers from Lady Bikers SA assembled in the city early on Saturday morning to take part in a 250 km ride to celebrate International Female Ride Month and to create awareness of bikers on the road.

The event was first hosted in Canada ten years ago and the local event was the first in Limpopo and the fourth in South Africa’ informed Mariaan Coetzee, local agent of Lady Bikers SA.
The route covered was from Polokwane to Mokopane and onwards to Mookgophong where the riders were joined by others from Bela-Bela and Modimolle. The final destination was a crocodile farm near Marken. The riders returned with the same route after a day of fun.
Coetzee said that May is also Motor Cycle Awareness Month and that nine groups of bikers took rides in other cities that included Pretoria, Cape Town and Middelburg in Mpumalanga.
“We are bikers but also women. We wear leather and boots but also high heels, make-up and bling,” Coetzee said and appealed to motorists to be aware of bikers on the road. “Some of us are grandmothers, mothers and daughters,” Coetzee said.
