IEC to lease property during municipal elections

The local government elections will be held on 3 August

POLOKWANE – With an eye on the coming local government elections, the IEC requested that the Polokwane Municipality lease vacant property to them for the purpose of using the sites for temporary voting stations.

The properties have been previously identified and declared as voting stations by the IEC, but it is required that the properties must be formally leased from the municipality.

The properties will be used as Results Operation Centres (ROC).

The ROC is used as a hub for the coordination of all election related activities in Limpopo and to host the media houses and political parties to ensure maximum transparency for free and fair elections is obtained.

Properties set aside for this purpose are:

• Plot 16683 at Pietersburg Ext 83 in Mahlasedi Park

• Plot 904/920 Luthuli Park in Seshego

• Plot 6559 Pietersburg Ext 29 in Emdo Park

• Covenant City in Lesedi Park

• Plot 12376 Pietersburg Ext 71

• Plot 14218 Pietersburg Ext 73

• Plot 15148 Pietersburg Ext 76

The council have approved fixed rates for the lease of the properties charged at R 541 per day, with a total cost of R18 935 to lease the seven properties.

During the same time, the municipality also leased the Peter Mokaba Sport Complex for a period of 14 days at R600 000. During this time the IEC will use the stadium exclusively for security reasons.
