The sky is the limit for local fashion designer

Local fashion designer, 30-year old Matshidiso Molepo, runs a successful boutique and owns her own fashion line.

POLOKWANE – From early childhood, she  knew that she had a passion for fashion running through her veins.  She recalls ‘stealing’ her mother’s make up, clothes and shoes. “I would always take my mom’s stuff and try it on.”

“Even in high school I was already sewing and altering my own clothes,” she adds.

“I went to the South West Gauteng College and studied clothing production. I did modules such as fashion designing, pattern making, cutting and factory organisation,” she explains.

The self proclaimed perfectionist says that looking forward, the sky is the limit for her.  In the next few years, she sees herself owning her own school of design. According to her, this is something that she thinks is lacking in the province.

“I noticed that there is a lack of schools or colleges for designing. Even I had to go to another province just to get a qualification so I want to assist the community in that respect. I want the coming generation to have somewhere they can study and pursue their dreams,” she continued.

When she’s not working she says she loves spending time with her family. “I love teaching my two boys about nature. When we’re sitting outside I teach them about the different species of butterflies, trees and bugs. When I’m not doing that, I love going out with my friends,” she concludes.
