Westenburg hit and run suspect appears in court

The 23-year-old man from Westenburg who according to eye witnesses knocked down a gr 11 learner from Westenburg, Shannon Sacco, on 15 March appeared before the Pokwane Magistrate's Court on Friday.

POLOKWANE – After knocking Sacco in Ben Harris Street the suspect fled the scene, but a resident followed him and notified the police of his whereabouts and the suspect was arrested at his house and the vehicle was also confiscated by the police.

On the day of the accident Sacco was on her way home when she was hit by the vehicle. According to eye-witness the suspect was traveling at a high speed.

She was rushed to the nearest hospital with critical injuries and later died in the hospital.

The suspect is facing the charge of culpable homicide and is still out on R1500 bail.

The case was postponed for further investigations.
