Kidnapping suspect appears in court

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of Anisah  Moosa

POLOKWANE – Simon Kubo (28) was arrested at Wonderpark in the north of Pretoria in the early hours of Friday morning.

He appeared in the Polokwane Magistrates’s Court on charges of kidnapping and attempted murder.

Hawks national spokesperson, Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, said Kubo could possibly be linked to other crimes including another kidnapping in Letsitele about a month ago.

“We have followed up on leads and on information from the public and are confident that there will be more arrests in the very near future,” Mulaudzi told Review.

He said the suspect was remanded in custody and would appear in court on Thursday, 21 April.

Anisah was kidnapped outside her uncle’s home in Nirvana last month. She was held hostage while the kidnappers demanded ransom from her family. A rescue operation led to her safe return, however, three policemen were shot in the process.

In a statement released this afternoon, family spokesperson Yusuf Ambramjee said the family was grateful to the Hawks and the SAPS for working around the clock.

“Let’s now allow the law to take its course. We remain confident that the remaining gang members will be arrested,” he says.
