‘We are peacefully awaiting to engage’ – Percy Nketse

The standstill at the Mogalakwena Municipality has entered its fifth week with no services rendered since municipal employees downed their tools on 10 March.

MOKOPANE – Percy Nketse, representative for the worker force, told Bosveld on Tuesday morning: “We will yet again gather on the corner of Beitel – and Thabo Mbeki Drive where we will peacefully await to engage with the Municipal Manger Willy Kekana and the Political Management Team.”

Kekana who was previously expelled as municipal manager in 2015 won the court battle in the North Gauteng High Court on Friday and as a result he was reinstated as municipal manager at the Mogalakwena Municipality with immediate effect.

Nketse further said: “We want to make it clear that we do not care who the municipal manager is, that is not of our concern at the moment, we will still only go back to work once benchmarking is implemented.”

The Municipal employees are demanding that the benchmarking of salaries with municipalities with the same grading system be implemented.

People are advised to rather avoid the area around the municipality due to a possible tense situation.
