Water situation in Mookgophong improves

Mookgophong still bears the scars of violent protests which erupted in the town recently, with residents calling for the mayor, Sarah Monyamane to step down.

MOOKGOPHONG – The residents alleged that the municipality failed to provide them with proper service delivery, with the town going without water for more than three weeks.

Municipal spokesperson, Naththaly Tlhoaela, told Bosveld: “the municipal management has discussed the water shortage and have erected two 5 000 liter water tanks at Hans Strijdom. Two of the pumps at Frikkie Geyser Dam burnt out, but a contractor is currently working on the problem. The contractor is also looking at the two repaired pumps which were vandalised during the recent protests. We aim to have at least five pumps in working condition by Friday”.

While residents claimed they had been without water for more than three weeks, DA councillor, Hercules Louw said the town had running water since Friday, while parts of Gholf Park had water on Sunday evening.

There was talk of possible protest action today (Tuesday) , however, Tlhoaela said they were not aware of any scheduled. protest action.

She said the  situation was currently calm.
