Suspect in Mgidi case in court for another murder

Samuel Matjila, a suspect in the Charles Mgidi murder case, recently appeared in the Mokerong Magistrate's Court in connection with the murder of Danny Baloyi in 2004.

MOKOPANE – Matjila along with co-accused Samuel Tshilambamvhau, appeared in the Mokerong Magistrates Court following the alleged assassination of Danny Baloyi in 2004 in Ga-madiba village. Baloyi was shot and killed on 13 August 2004. According to Const Sello Leso, Spokesperson for the Mahwelereng Police Station, Tshilambamvhau is the main accused in the case and was recently implicated as a suspect.

In his first appearance earlier in March Tshilambamvhau was released on bail of R3 000 and the case was postponed to 24 March. Leso reported he case has been postponed until 7 April (Thursday).

Last Sunday (27 March) marked a year since Gideon Sello Fatana, a well-known taxi-owner was shot and killed in front of his house in Fourie Street and Monday (4 April) marks a year since Charles Mgidi, a member of the Mogalakwena Residents Association (MRA), was shot and killed at a filling station in Nelson Mandela Drive.

Matjila, Desmond Machaba and Patrick Sekhu, all well-known taxi owners, were arrested for the murder of Mgidi and their trial dates have been set in the Polokwane High Court for 3 to 13 May. Thabo Matlaila, Charles Mogale and Sithole Thomas Monise were arrested for the murder of Fatana and their trial dates have been set in the Polokwane High Court for 31 May to 10 June. All of the suspects remain in custody. “We want to see justice served as it has been a year since these murders,” a disgruntled resident and friend of the victims told Bosveld.
