‘This is a real health risk’

Raw sewage has been flooding through the yards of residents in H.F. Verwoerd Street for days.

MOKOPANE – Raw sewage has been flooding through the yards of residents in H.F. Verwoerd Street for days and due to the ongoing municipal strike no one is able to fix it.

A despondent resident told Bosveld: “I had to take my dog to the vet due to a bacterial fungus she picked up as a result of the sewage and well R6 000 later my dog is on the road to recovery but the sewage is still running.”

According to residents in the area this is an ongoing problem that has occurred at least 10 times before. ” Every time the municipality has sent someone to fix it, but with the current strike, this has been the situation for the last week or two.” Korny Dekker, DA Councillor of Ward 31, said: “This is a real health risk. The sewage is running into the drain water system that runs into the Mogalakwena River. We are in dire need of service from the Mogalakwena Municipality.”
