Guard shot in cash heist, one arrested

A security guard of PJP Security was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon after he was shot in the foot in front of a bank at the Crossing Shopping Centre during a cash-in-transit heist.

MOKOPANE – Provincial Police Spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto, reported: “One of the security guards alleges they were taking money to the bank when they were confronted by two armed suspects.

“The suspects robbed the security guards of an undisclosed amount of money and their pistols at gunpoint.”

Otto further said: “Shots were fired from different directions and one of the security-guards was hit in the foot, fortunately no one else was hurt or harmed during the incident.

“Pistol cartridges were found at the scene.”

In a media statement send by Resilient Properties, owners of the Crossing Shopping Centre, they commented.

“Five suspects attempted to rob a cash-in-transit vehicle.

“The suspects escaped in a vehicle with a Gauteng registration number. Centre management is assisting the police in their investigation.”

An eye-witness told Bosveld: “There were at least five shots fired. Everything happened within a blink of an eye. After the shooting the suspects jumped into a vehicle and rushed off.”

According to Mokopane Police Spokesperson, Irene Masingi: “One suspect was apprehended on Tuesday night and will appear before the Mokopane Magistrates Court for cash-in-transit.

“The other suspects are still on the run and a thorough investigation is on-going,” Masingi concluded.
