Testing of motorcycle licencees suspended in city

This was confirmed yesterday (Wednesday) after residents wanting to undergo testing couldn't do so due to the unavailability of testing officials.

POLOKWANE – According to a few applicants who recently went to the Polokwane Traffic Offices in Ladanna for their motorcycle licenses, they were not told upfront that there were no testing officers available. They were first sent to Mankweng and other traffic offices under the Polokwane Municipality before they were told that the service had been suspended and that they will not be able to get their licenses any time soon.

“This is unacceptable because there are some of us whose learner licences are expiring soon and then we will have to pay again to rewrite the learners test. How can the municipality allow this to happen?” the motorcyclists wanted to know.

Matshidiso Mothapo, a municipal spokesperson, confirmed the suspension of motorcycle licensee testing, saying it follows the resignation of two officers and the suspension of one officer.

“We are busy with processes to transfer officers from our other stations so that we are able to proceed with provision of the service. It is expected that by the beginning of May the service will resume,” he said.

No bookings for this service have been made since March, he added.

“We’ve advised those interested in testing to use other test facilities like Mokopane and Tzaneen. However, for learner license testing they can still use our facilities,” Mothapo said.
