Detainees of the Polokwane Correctional Centre last Thursday enjoyed some welcome entertainment when Limpopo Gospel Choir presented their Share a Moment programme of traditional, jazz and gospel songs at the facility.
Choir Director Lesley Nkoana said they decided to bring the initiative to the centre because they believe that people at correctional facilities deserves a second chance in life.
“Some are hardly visited by their families and friends. With the performances we render we want to give them hope. We believe that some want to be corrected and we want to the touch the lives of those who do,” Nkoana said.
He mentioned that they will visit Kgoshi Mampuru Correctional Centre in Pretoria in the coming month to render the same service.
“We are also planning to hand over school uniforms to the needy and underprivileged children from rural schools in the province. We came up with this initiative because there are many children who do not have school uniforms and we hope to better their lives,” added Nkoana.
The choir was established last year in September and it consists of 34 choristers from mainly rural areas in the province.
