POLOKWANE – The main purpose of the training is to prepare the firefighters for the winter fire season.
According to Matema Gwangwa, WoF provincial communications officer, the 2015 winter fire season was one of the worst fire seasons the province had ever experienced.
“Due to the drought and the high temperatures in the province, we anticipate fires starting earlier than in previous years. As a result, WoF decided to start with the preparations earlier to avoid being caught by surprise,” said Gwangwa.
She added that the trainees will undergo rigorous training, and part of the training will include lectures, physical and mental assessment, as well as tightening the safety precautions measures.
