Anisah Moosa, who was kidnapped in Nirvana last Tuesday evening, has been safely reunited with her family upon her return in the early hours of Friday morning.
Family spokesperson Yusuf Abramjee said Moosa, an employee of the South African Revenue Service (Sars) had been abducted by three men outside her uncle’s house in Nirvana on Tuesday evening. Thirty minutes later a ransom amount was demanded. He said she was physically unharmed.
Hawks Spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi said the kidnappers demanded a sizeable ransom from her family. “The arrangement was made that the money would be exchanged between Polokwane and Lebowakgomo on Thursday night. At around 20:00 the family, who had the back-up of the Hawks and Police members, were on their way to the agreed spot when the kidnappers told them to stop and offload the money at Ga-Chuene near Lebowakgomo.”
When the kidnappers arrived at the point they emerged from the vehicle whilst allegedly pointing a firearm at Moosa. “As they proceeded to where the ransom was left they noticed the presence of Police and started shooting at the officers. Three members of the Police were injured during the shootout. The kidnappers fled, leaving the ransom and a suspected stolen grey Volkswagen Polo behind”.
No arrests have been made as yet.
