‘We want the money’

The situation in Mokopane is still unchanged and no services are currently being rendered at the Mogalakwena Municipality.

MOKOPANE – Municipal workers have downed tools since last Thursday demanding that their salaries be benchmarked according to the same grading as other municipalities.

The protestors rampaged through the streets and vandalised mayor Parks Sebatjane and councillor Sam Montane’s houses on Monday. Four suspects have been arrested for malicious damage to property and public violence.

Percy Nketse, representative of the workerts, told Bosveld: “we will only engage with COGHSTA once the charges against our comrades have been withdrawn. We want our money then only will we go back to work”.

The situation is currently calm and the protesters have gathered peacefully at a filling station in Beitel Street.

The police are monitoring the situation.
