Situation in Mokopane still tense
“When you see the gathering of clouds one can expect rain.” These are the words Percy Nketse, representative of the Mogalakwena worker force, with regards to the current protest.
MOKOPANE – Nketse told Bosveld on Tuesday morning: “I anticipate that the situation will be even more aggressive than yesterday due to the lies Mayor Parks Sebatjane spread in an interview over the radio.”
Nketse said Mayor Sebatjane should withdraw the charges he has laid against their leaders and he warned the police not to interfere in the matter as they do not come to their offices when they demand an increase. “The presence of the police irritates us.”
The situation in Mokopane remains tense this morning following the protest action yesterday in which municipal employees vandalised the mayor and councillor Sam Montane’s houses.
Police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto, said: “Members of the public order police are deployed in the area to monitor the situation.” Residents are advised to avoid the area around the Mogalakwena Municipality and to be alert at all times.
