MOKOPANE – Following the protest action yesterday in which municipal employees vandalised the mayor and councillor Sam Montane’s houses, the Mogalakwena municipal offices remain closed with no services rendered.
Municipal workers are demanding that the bench-marking of salaries according to municipalities of the same grading system be implemented.
“Earlier this morning municipal workers blocked all the main roads around the municipal buildings with vehicles and burning tyres. Public order had to fire rubber bullets to disperse the crowds,” says the provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.
Two cases of malicious damage to property have been opened. “No arrests have been made so far'”
Police members are still on the scene concludes Otto.
