POLOKWANE – Richard Hillary is the newly elected chairperson of the Round Table Impala 157, taking over from Donovan Snyman.

“We have the annual general meeting which all the clubs in the Bushveld will attend this weekend, then we plan to host the tour where Round Tables from Holland and Germany will visit us,” Hillary says.

He is 35 years old and together with his wife, Nadine, they have four children.

“I was born and raised in Polokwane and completed my high school career at Capricorn High School. After school I travelled to the United Kingdom and Ireland.”

After he returned to South Africa, he studied civil engineering in Cape Town. After he completed his studies, he started work at the well known family business, Hillary Construction.

“Both my father and uncle was part of the Round Table Impala 157, and I grew up with the values of the Round Table in my blood.

“It is a big honor for me to be elected as the new chairperson and I will do my best to honour the position and the club’s decision,” Hillary says.

The says the best part of being part of the Round Table is giving back to the community. “You can help others in a way that suits you. Travelling, meeting new people and building new relationships are also definite perks. The downside is it is time consuming, but the sense of companionship is irreplaceable. We do most of our projects over weekends and we involve our wives a lot. Being part of the Round Table is very rewarding, you make new friends and it is a good way for new residents to become involved in their community,” Hillary concludes.
