6 Fake doctors remain in custody

Six men who were recently arrested for illegally operating as doctors appeared briefly before the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Monday.

POLOKWANE – The men were arrested  during a police clamp down on fake doctors and healers in the city last Friday. A joint operation that included the Public Protector, Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs.

Polokwane Police Spokesperson, Capt Ntobeng Phala said the police had been involved in an ongoing investigation over an extended period into the bogus doctors and acted on information from the public.

Phala said the police need information from the public on cases like these and urged residents with information to come forward to the nearest police station.

He said there are plenty of hospitals that are willing to terminate unwanted pregnancies legally.

They remain in custody and are due to appear again in a few weeks’ time, he concluded.
