SAPS members compensated for property damaged during protests

The four SAPS officers whose private property was severely damaged during the recent Modimolle protests received new household appliances and items from the office of the provincial police commissioner on Monday.

LIMPOPO – “Two weeks ago the private properties of the four members were severely damaged by the community. The houses of two members were set alight, while others had their rooms broken into and looted, and the windows of their private vehicles smashed and tyres slashed,” says provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

On Monday, the provincial police commissioner, Lt Genl Fanie Masemola visited the officers’ homes to hand-over the donations.

These donations included beds, wardrobes, television sets and other household items.

The repairs of the vehicles are also being attended to.

During the event Lt Genl Masemola stressed to the community that their attack on the SAPS members is like shooting the messenger. “You are creating a confusion” he told members of the community. “When they do their work you burn their houses and when they don’t do their work you say that they are doing nothing” he stressed. He concluded by simply stating : “Let us all support the Police.”
