National, provincial and municipal elections explained:

National and provincial elections occur every five years. In these elections, you vote for a political party to get seats in the national or provincial legislatures (provincial) and for members of parliament (national) that will govern the country as a whole.

However, Municipal Elections can be seen as being more important as these elections determine your ward councillors and a political party to govern your municipality. In other words, the political party that you vote for and the councillor will be responsible for governing your municipality for the next five years. They serve on the town, city, metropolitan and/or district councils which ensure services for the community. This includes electricity, water, sewerage and sanitation services, waste removal and other services that impact the community’s lives. It is important for you to vote in the upcoming municipal elections as you have a direct say in who runs your community as well as your ward.
