Mgidi, Fatana murder trial moved to Polokwane

After almost a year since the murder of Sello Gideon Fatana and Charles Mgidi, the trial dates have officially been set for all of the suspects.

MOKOPANE – Sithole Thomas Monise (35) was the last suspect in connection with the murder of Fatana that was served with an indictment in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court last Thursday.

Fatana, a well-known taxi owner, was shot and killed in front of his house in Fourie Street on 27 March.

Thabo Matlaila and Charles Mogale were arrested for the murder of Fatana and were denied bail last year.

Matlaila was again denied bail last Wednesday in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court after he reapplied based on new facts.

It is alleged that there is a link between the Fatana murder case and the Charles Mgidi murder case as Desmond Machaba is involved in both cases.

Mgidi, a member of the Mogalakwena Residents Association (MRA), was shot on 4 April in front of a filling station in Nelson Mandela Drive. Samuel Matjila, Machaba and Patrick Sekhu were arrested on the same day of Mgidi’s murder.

Monise along with Matlaila and Mogale’s trial date have been set in the Polokwane High Court for 30 May to 10 June.

The trial date for Matjila, Machaba and Sekhu have been set for 3 to 13 May in the Polokwane High Court.
