Armed robbers strike Mokopane jewellery store

The security guard and the sales assistant of a well-known jewellery store in Thabo Mbeki Drive had to be rushed to the Voortrekker Hospital on Saturday morning after the store was the target of armed robbers.

MOKOPANE – One of the employees, who wants to stay anonymous, told Bosveld:

Two neatly dressed women and a man entered the shop at around 09:30.

The sales assistant asked if she could assist them upon which they replied that they were simply browsing.

“The man pulled out a firearm and demanded everyone to go to the back of the store.”

According to the source, the man tied up the security guard after he as well as one of the sales-assistants were hit over the head with the firearm.

“The armed man threatened the employees as well as a client at the back of the store while the two ladies were bagging the jewellery as well as cash.

“Within 40 minutes the suspects cleaned out the store and fled.”

The security guard and the sales assistant received stitches at the Voortrekker Hospital.

The source said the same ladies were in the store on Thursday.

“Yes it is a big loss in profit for the store, but for the victims the bitter taste and shock that this incident has left them with will take months to process,” the source remarked.

Mokopane Police Spokesperson, Sgt Irene Masingi, confirmed that the suspects took off with jewellery and an undisclosed amount of money.

“No suspects have of yet been arrested and an investigation is ongoing,” Masingi confirmed.
