POLOKWANE – Polokwane Municipality together with Lepelle Northern Water are implementing measures to stabilise supply to areas in the city that are experiencing water shortage.

According to a municipal spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo: “the reservoir levels declined drastically from Friday following a series of supply disruptions as a result of cable theft and a number of major pipe bursts.”

Measures being implemented include:

• Flow pressure to areas in the low catchment has been reduced so that reservoir levels can pick up.

• Lepelle Northern Water is also pumping more water to the city.

“In order for the reservoir to pick up residents and members of the public are advised to limit water usage to household purposes only.”

It is expected that the situation will improve as the week progresses. In the meantime the municipality will continue to provide temporary relief through water tankers to the affected areas.

The Dalmada plant is also temporarily open to residents in the affected areas to draw from. The plant will be open between 07:00 and 22:00 until the situation stabilises.

The reservoir levels are critical and by this morning the readings were as follows:

Krugersburg 50 Ml, 30 Ml and 30 Ml were at 7%, 0% and 0% respectively.
