LIMPOPO – The R71 road near Mankweng is now open although motorists are being advised to rather avoid the Mentz area say Limpopo police.

Earlier  public order police fired rubber bullets after the school children refused to disperse peacefully says Provincial Police Spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

“The road is open but motorists are still advised to rather avoid the Mentz area or to drive with extreme caution.”

Public Order Police members are on the scene. The situation is still tense.

LIMPOPO – School children in the Mentz area have since this morning blocked the R71 to Tzaneen near Mankweng.

Schools in the area are not open today due to the protest action last night, where residents blocked the roads with stones and buring tyres.

“The school children are now staging protest actions by physically blocking the road, says Provincial Police Spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

“Public order police members are in the area but motorists are being advised to avoid the area or drive cautiously.”
