Yesterday’s footage from the scene

Tebogo Maenetja (24) and John Rangenga (37) have been identified as the two bodies that were removed from the vehicle.

Although it is suspected an argument ensued between the two, provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronél Otto, said the relationship between the victims has not been determined yet.

An employee from a nearby business was outside for a break, when he heard a shot.

“I turned around and heard another shot. Then, there was a pause, followed by a third shot,” the eyewitness, who prefers to stay anonymous, recounted the events.

According to the eyewitness, a third person alighted from the vehicle, and fled the scene. This could however not be confirmed by the police.

A police officer who assisted at the scene said in his experience, similar incidents are more common over the festive season, and not early on in the year.

WO Lesiba Ramoshaba confirmed an inquest was opened and a case of murder was being investigated. He also said a 44-calibre handgun had been used in the incident.

As the bodies were removed by the forensics unit, a handgun was found in the hand of the male deceased.

Ramoshaba advised couples to seek help should they experience relationship problems, “there are trained professionals who can help in these instances”.
