Blue drop status: Lim’s water unsafe for drinking

According to a report by the Blue Drop Certification Programme, Limpopo's water is unsuitable for human consumption.

POLOKWANE- According to a report by the Blue Drop Certification Programme, Limpopo’s water is unsuitable for human consumption.

Although Polokwane and Lephalale municipalities are the top two municipalities which provide safe drinking water, other districts are still supplying low quality water with Mookgophong and Vhembe districts scoring the lowest with 26% and 39% respectively.

Blue Drop Certification Programme

Blue Drop Certification Programme, developed in 2008, allows for proactive management and regulation of drinking water quality management based upon legislated norms and standards as well as international practice.
The body audits municipal water supply systems throughout the country and it has found that more than half of the municipalities in Limpopo are providing water not suitable for people to drink as it poses health risks.
