This is why some residents’ water is brown

The municipality has given its assurance that the water in the city is safe for consumption

POLOKWANE – This follows after several residents complained that their water was brown and appeared to be dirty over the weekend.

The affected areas included Flora Park, Serala View, Ster Park, Bendor and parts of Seshego.

Municipal Spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo, said some parts of the city experienced a water shortage because the Olifantspoort plant was not operational due to an electrical fault caused by a hailstorm on Thursday.

“Operations stopped and the normal capacity could not be pumped, which affected the water pressure in the high lying areas of Polokwane. However, the problem was fixed and water supply was back to normal by Friday night. It can be that the cause of the coloured water is because of the dryness in the pipes, but the water is safe for consumption. Residents who are unsure can boil the water before drinking it,” Mothapo said.

Mothapo urged residents to use water sparingly and to limit their water usage to immediate household needs.

“This will allow the reservoirs to fill up to a decent level,” Mothapo said.
