Gilbert Kganyago, Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) Executive Mayor has pulled out all stops to expedite the completion of 54 delayed water and sanitation projects that were rolled over from previous financial years.
Moffat Senyatsi, Media Liaison Officer of the municipality, said that in the last financial year, 54 water and sanitation projects were rolled over to the current financial year and the mid-year projections indicate that, of the 54 incomplete projects that were rolled over, 39 were completed by the end of December. “The rapid progress in the outstanding projects that affects 15 villages, was noted. This means that contractors are working round the clock to complete the remaining ones,” Senyatsi reported.
According to Senyatsi, Kganyago has vowed to ensure that all outstanding projects are completed and commissioned in the current quarter. This, Kganyago reckons, will be done by surmounting all challenges that caused delays by engaging Eskom to speed up the electrification of boreholes; resolving community conflicts on projects, among other interventions.
“This move comes as a systematic, deliberate, strategic programme to expedite service delivery and reprioritise critical projects and reinvigorate efforts to deliver within defined timeframes and avoid returning funds to national government,” Senyatsi concluded.
