MOKOPANE – The accident on Wednesday morning on the R101 about 15 km’s outside of Mokopane claimed another live last night raising the death toll to 15 yet-to-be identified persons.
It is alleged that the driver of the double-cab bakkie carrying 15 passengers of which one a two-year-old toddler, lost control of the vehicle and veered into the lane of the upcoming traffic and collided with a truck.
A total of 14 people died on the scene and the driver of the bakkie and one of the passengers were rushed to hospital in a critical state. The woman passenger died last night in Mokopane hospital. The driver of the truck is currently in a Polokwane hospital.
According to Col Ronel Otto, Police spokesperson of Limpopo, one of the victims is a resident from Congo and the rest are Zimbabwean residents.
“The identities of the victims will released once the next of kin have been notifed.”
