The Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide following a collision between a double cab bakkie and truck on the R101 between Mokopane and Mookgophong that claimed the lives of 14 people in the early hours of yesterday (Wednesday).
Spokesperson on traffic at the Department of Transport, Safety, Security and Liaison, Kagiso Mootane said fatigue was possibly the cause of the accident.
“All of the deceased were identified as foreign nationals. Among the dead is an eight-month-old baby. The truck driver and two other persons were only slightly injured and taken to Voortrekker Hospital in Mokopane,” Mootane said.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Ronel Otto confirmed that a case of culpable homicide was being investigated. According to her the accident happened just after 02:00 and the driver of the bakkie was among the survivors.
