UPDATE: baby rescued from toilet, mother appears in court

44-year-old Dorah Machete who was arrested after allegedly leaving her baby girl in a pit toilet in Nthabiseng village in Morebeng over the weekend, appeared before court on Wednesday morning.

LIMPOPO – 44-year-old  Dorah Machete who was arrested after allegedly leaving her baby girl in a pit toilet over the weekend, appeared before Sekgosese Magistrate’s court on Wednesday morning.

Machete appeared on the charges of concealment of birth said provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

She was arrested on Sunday afternoon following the rescue of her baby girl from a pit toilet in Nthabiseng village in Morebeng.

According to an earlier report the police and paramedics were called in the same morning after a resident heard the baby crying in a pit toilet.

The SAPS dive unit managed to rescue the baby girl, and she was taken to the Botlokwa hospital for further treatment. The baby is still recovering in hospital said Otto.

“She was released on warning and will appear again on 25 February.”
