5-year-old missing after hippo attack in Limpopo River

LIMPOPO – Members of the SAPS Search and Rescue and Air Wing Units continued today (Sunday) with their search for a five-year-old girl who went missing on 31 December 2015.

“The young girl went missing after a group of 11 illegal foreigners attempted to enter the country illegally through the Limpopo River near the Beit Bridge Border Post in December last year,” said provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

According to Otto the people were chased by a hippopotamus and some sustained slight injuries, the child was reported missing shortly afterwards.

“Despite extended searches the young girl not yet been found yet and members of the SAPS Search and Rescue unit as well as the Air Wing unit are still busy with search operations.”
