The first round of interviews for Miss Humanity South Africa was held in the city on last Saturday.
Miss Humanity South Africa is a leadership programme that requires the entrants to advocate charitable causes by hosting various projects with the intent to change lives. Thirty finalists in the age categories 7 – 12 years, 13 – 17 years and 18-27 years will attend a workshop to be held during the last weekend of January to be groomed and trained in preparation for the national pageant that will be hosted at a local hospitality establishment on 5 February.
Local businessperson, reigning Miss Humanity International 2014 and national director for the pageant Katryn Barwise informed that she wants to share and use the knowledge she gained from participating in the pageant to support more South African girls to excel on the international stage.
Among the titles Barwise collected during the 2014 Miss Humanity International pageant the title of ‘Beauty on a Mission’ is most reflective of what she stands for and hopes to promote among participants. She also won Best Interview, Best Evening Gown and Best National Costume.
The Miss Humanity International pageant, where three girls would represent South Africa, is expected to take place in Barbados in March. Barwise said that she was very excited about the journey and that she can’t wait to see who is going to represent South Africa.
For reasons not made public by the international organisers the pageant was not held last year.
