All systems seem to be in place for a timely delivery of Learner Teacher Support Material (LTSM), including textbooks to schools this year.
“The department already started with distribution of Learner Teacher Support Material, including books, last year,” Naledzani Rasila, Head of Communications at the Department of Education told Polokwane Observer. “The department planned to have all material delivered to all school so that when schools re-open, only LTSM to cover for the challenge of learner migration are delivered.”
Jacques Smalle, Democratic Alliance Provincial Leader said upon enquiry he could determine that about 95% of books at 95% of schools have so far been delivered at schools.
The party planned to do follow-ups, but Smalle was fairly satisfied that the department this year would show a big improvement in delivery.
The Department of Basic Education and the Limpopo Department of Education’s application to appeal the high court ruling on textbook provision to schools was dismissed in November last year and the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein confirmed it was the right of every learner to be provided with textbooks as prescribed timeously.
