“He was a man who would never stop fighting for freedom of speech and had an absolute passion for journalism.”
This is how Democratic Alliance (DA) Provincial Leader Jacques Smalle described Stephen Mbedzi who passed away on Tuesday afternoon after a short illness. “His death will leave a void in the office. He was a people’s person and his lively attitude will be missed,” Smalle said.
He also said Mbedzi’s decision to join the DA in July last year was largely because of his deeply felt love for the country and the Constitution. Mbedzi, who mostly handled the communications department of the DA and acted as spokesperson for several months. Prior to that he was a journalist for nearly eight years.
Smalle said Mbedzi was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Polokwane Provincial Hospital on Monday evening due to experiencing difficulty breathing. He passed away on Tuesday afternoon.
At the time of going to print funeral arrangements were not known.
