POLOKWANE – The National Library of South Africa (NLSA) in partnership with the University of Limpopo (UL) has recently launched Prof Seth Manaka’s book titled Festschrift.

According to Mandla Matyumza, the CEO of NLSA and co-editor of the book, the launch serves as a way of honouring Manaka for his contribution to promoting access to books.

“The book is intended to commemorate and celebrate the good work done by Prof Manaka, who is a pioneer and legend in the Library and Information Services (LIS). He has done a sterling job of inspiring people in building this nation and developing a love of reading in the youth of our country. It really means a lot to us because it is an inspiration and testimony of what Prof Manaka has done. We encourage everyone to read and enjoy this book,” Matyumza said.

“This book offers a challenging and inspiring vision of change which Prof Manaka strove for all his life.”

Manare Manaka, Manaka’s son, said the family was happy and humbled to celebrate the life of their father who started the LIS at the university.

“The book summarises the bigger picture of what we appreciate. We salute his life and the character of working with other people. He has paved the way for us and everyone in our country,” said Manaka.

Prof Manaka spent his entire career in academic librarianship at UL as an assistant librarian, lecturer, deputy university librarian, university librarian and later a professor of LIS.
