Nedbank Local Hero Programme donates R15 000 to Westenburg Rugby Club to aid construction of new stadium

The Westenburg Rugby Club received a R15 000 donation from the Nedbank Local Hero Programme on Thursday.

“As an integral part of our cultural sustainability, we, the Nedbank Group, encourage our personnel to play their part in uplifting and empowering communities.

This fosters a culture of selflessness and builds a strong sense of community spirit and belonging,” Gary Marks, regional general manager for Nedbank Limpopo and Mpumalanga, said.

Gert Adams, a member of the Westenburg Rugby Club and a branch manager at the Nedbank Seshego branch, is the one who identified the Westenburg Rugby Club as one of the organisations that should benefit from the company’s programme.

“The Westenburg Rugby Club is busy building a sports stadium on an open piece of land at the Westenburg Secondary School. This stadium is for the community’s benefit and that is why I used this window of opportunity to help them.

“The stadium will help keep young people off the streets and away from mischief like drugs and alcohol abuse.

“The youth can use the stadium for different sports codes.

“By being active in sports, I hope it will change their way of thinking and they will become focused and goal driven with a vision,” Adams said.

Chairperson of the Westenburg Rugby Club, Francois Hartlief, thanked Adams and Nedbank for the donation and he challenged other companies to follow the example in assisting the club with donations to help them complete the sports stadium.
