152 arrested, Operation Fiela in full force

A total of 152 people were arrested during Operation Fiela on Thursday and Friday last week reports provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

LIMPOPO – A total of 152 people were arrested during Operation Fiela on Thursday and Friday last week reports provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

“Most people were arrested for liquor-related crimes, such as public drinking 71, selling liquor without a license 2 and failing to comply with the Liquor Act.”

“A total of 17 people were arrested for drug-related crimes. Large quantity of dagga was confiscated during the police operation,” said Otto on Monday.

“22 people were apprehended under the Road Traffic Act, most of them for reckless and negligent driving and one person was arrested for the possession of counterfeit goods, 2 for housebreaking, 1 for theft from motor vehicle and 1 for assault. Two people were arrested for the possession of a dangerous weapon,  1 for malicious damage to property and 1 for theft.”

A total of 21 undocumented persons  were also apprehended concludes Otto.

 

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in the province, Lt Genl Fannie Masemola,  has reiterated that this operation, focusing on illegal fire arms and ammunition, drugs and contraband, liquor and second hand goods, crimes against women and children, hijacking and serious and violent crimes will intensify during the coming weeks.

“We want to ensure that the communities in the province feel safe and secure and enjoy a festive season without the fear of falling victim to heartless criminals,” he said. “We therefore also appeal to the communities and community leaders out there to work hand in hand with the Police during this time and to expose criminals and criminal elements within their society,” he said.
