Motsepe Foundation offering bursaries to learners

Learners who wish to further their studies, but are not financially able, can apply for a bursary from the Motsepe Foundation.

POLOKWANE – Learners who wish to further their studies, but are not financially able, can apply for a bursary from the Motsepe Foundation.

The bursary application processes opened last Tuesday and closes on 15 January 2016.

Mabilu Mokwalakwala, secretary for the Mostepe Foundation Capricorn District Development Forum explained the process:

“Bursaries will be awarded to learners who achieved academic excellence, and preference will be given to learners from poor families or disadvantaged family backgrounds.”

“We have made arrangements with all the mayors and maghosi within Capricorn District and we will forward application forms with copies of the requirements for application to their municipalities and meshate for easy access by all students. Application forms will be put at security gates and must be returned to the same venue for collection by the Motsepe Foundation officials on a weekly basis.”

He added that teacher unions, principal unions, and religious organisations within the district will assist with the distribution of application forms to schools and churches.

Requirements for application are:

‱ Proof of residence strictly from ward councilors or authorised traditional leaders.

‱ Certified copy of applicant’s and applicant’s mother, father or legal guardian’s identity document (ID).

‱ Acceptance letter from the institution of higher learning.

‱ Original or certified copy of payslips or pension slips for both parents or guardian. These copies may not be older than three months.

‱ In case of any parent being deceased, a certified copy of death certificate must be attached.

‱ If parents or guardian are self employed, attach a copy of the latest financial statements. These copies may not be older than three months.

‱ If parents are single, they must attach an affidavit stating the other parent is not contributing financially towards the dependant.

‱ Certified copy of matric certificate or statement of results.

The Motsepe Foundation has over the past two years, 2014 and 2015, approved a total of 735 bursaries nationally, which have been awarded to university students who come from the 26 Motsepe Foundation Development Forums which the Motsepe Foundation has established throughout South Africa.
